Renowned author and cartoonist Ziraldo, creator of the beloved character “O Menino Maluquinho,” passed away at the age of 91 in his apartment in Rio de Janeiro. The news of his death has left the nation in mourning, with tributes pouring in from celebrities and fans alike.

Walcyr Carrasco, Zeca Camargo, Mauricio de Sousa, and Xuxa were among the many who took to social media to express their sadness over the loss of Ziraldo. The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has declared three days of official mourning in honor of the artist who spent most of his life in the city.

Mauricio de Sousa, creator of “Monica’s Gang,” shared, “What sadness! I have no words. I lost more than a great friend. I lost a brother. Of letters, strokes, and life! But he will always be here in my heart. And in the hearts of millions of Brazilian ‘maluquinhos,’ of all ages, who will continue to be passionate about his work. Long live Ziraldo!”

Walcyr Carrasco expressed his gratitude for Ziraldo’s sensitivity, saying, “Today we lost the cartoonist Ziraldo, creator of ‘O Menino Maluquinho.’ His stories marked the childhood of many and continue to enchant generations. Thank you for everything, Ziraldo! Rest in peace!”

Xuxa, who had a close relationship with Ziraldo, shared, “It was on your show, Etcétera, that my life on television began… Since then, you have always been a part of my life, my history, the history of the Foundation, and of so many children. Thank you for everything you planted and a kiss in your heart. Go with God.”

Zeca Camargo paid tribute to Ziraldo’s genius, saying, “All the ‘maluquinho’ boys – of all ages – are crying. Ziraldo, the genius behind ‘Flicts,’ bids farewell. Long live Ziraldo!! 1933-2024.”
